Steel Diver was one of the earliest adventures on the Nintendo 3DS, putting you in command of a submarine on secret missions across the worlds oceans. A power hungry dictator is stirring up trouble, and your small fleet of subs is sent to slip past enemy defences and strike where it hurts. The presentation sells the fantasy of life under the waves, with sonar pings, creaking hulls and shafts of light cutting through deep water. Missions range from quiet patrols to frantic battles, and the slow heavy feel of the subs makes every decision matter.

The touch screen is your control room. Sliders and wheels set your speed, depth and pitch, while a tap fires torpedoes at enemy ships and subs. Steering a huge vessel through narrow caves with mines on every side takes calm hands and patience. A periscope mode lets you surface and pick off ships in a shooting gallery style challenge, using motion controls to aim. Three different subs offer a choice between balance, speed and raw power, and chasing fast clear times on each mission adds plenty of reason to dive again.
