Samurai Defender is a castle defense game set in feudal Japan. Enemy armies march on your fortress in growing waves, and you command the archers and soldiers who must hold the walls. The premise is classic tower defense dressed in samurai armor: protect the gate, spend your earnings wisely and survive every assault the enemy can throw at you. It is simple to grasp within minutes, which made it a natural fit for quick handheld sessions.

Your defenses grow between waves. Gold earned in battle upgrades your archers, strengthens your troops and unlocks special tactics for desperate moments. Enemy types vary, from speedy runners to armored brutes, and each wave asks you to adjust your priorities rather than repeat one plan. Boss sized attackers close out major stages with a proper test. Defending this castle now takes a little hunting. The Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS closed in March 2023, so new digital purchases are no longer possible, and no cartridge edition followed. The game survives mainly with players who picked it up during the store years.
