Kirby Battle Deluxe!, the Japanese title for the game known in the west as Kirby Battle Royale, throws Kirby into a grand tournament where every contestant is Kirby. King Dedede hosts a battle competition promising cake to the winner, and Kirbys of every color step into arenas to fight through a series of themed contests. The story mode frames the action with Dededes scheming and a mysterious blue Kirby who keeps appearing at the worst moments. It is a playful twist on the series, trading the usual platforming for party style arena combat.

Battles mix free for all brawls with mini game style contests, from collecting apples and ore to racing and rocket battles, all with Kirbys copy abilities in play. Sword, bomb, ninja, spear and more abilities change how you fight, and learning each arenas rules matters as much as fast attacks. Story mode teaches the contests one by one, while multiplayer lets up to four players battle locally or online. The presentation is bright and silly, and matches are short enough for quick sessions. It is Kirby at his most competitive, with cake on the line.
