Japanese Rail Sim 3D: Journey to Kyoto for Nintendo 3DS

About Japanese Rail Sim 3D: Journey to Kyoto for Nintendo 3DS

Japanese Rail Sim 3D: Journey to Kyoto invites you to drive a real Japanese train line toward one of the countrys most beloved cities. The view from the cab is filmed from the actual route, so rivers, mountains, small stations and temple rooftops slide past exactly as they do in life. Kyoto draws closer stop by stop, and the pleasure of the game is in the journey itself rather than any dramatic destination. For rail fans it is a postcard you can drive, faithful to the rhythm of a real local service.

Driving well means respecting the timetable and treating passengers kindly, accelerating smoothly, coasting where the line allows and braking early enough to stop precisely at each platform. The game scores your control, rewarding the calm consistency of a good driver. Extra material introduces the history and sights near the line, adding context to what rolls past your window. On the 3DS the depth effect gives the tracks and valleys a pleasing sense of distance. Runs are relaxing but never mindless, since one lazy brake can spoil an otherwise perfect arrival.

If you want to play it now, plan on hunting down a cartridge. The Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS closed in March 2023, which means new digital purchases are no longer possible for this or any other 3DS title. A physical copy from a game retailer is the honest option today. Owners who bought it digitally before the closure can still access their purchased games on their system.

One of the calmest journeys you can take on a handheld.
