Shovel Knight + Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows for Nintendo 3DS

About Shovel Knight + Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows for Nintendo 3DS

This Nintendo 3DS listing brings together the original Shovel Knight adventure with its first big expansion, Plague of Shadows. In the main campaign you guide Shovel Knight against the Order of No Quarter to save Shield Knight. In Plague of Shadows the same events unfold from the side of Plague Knight, a giggling alchemist who raids his fellow knights to gather ingredients for the ultimate potion. Seeing the story from a villain point of view adds jokes, heart and surprises for returning players.

The two heroes play very differently, which keeps the shared stages feeling fresh. Shovel Knight digs, bounces and swings with steady precision, while Plague Knight tosses arcing bombs, mixes powder and casing combinations and blasts himself skyward with bomb jumps. New challenge rooms and the alchemy crafting system give the expansion its own flavor. Both campaigns are generous, funny and tightly designed, and together they form a meaty package that shows how much care went into this world and its oddball knight cast.

Some shopping context helps today: the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS closed in March 2023, so new digital purchases under this listing are no longer possible. A physical cartridge of Shovel Knight for the system is the practical way to enjoy both campaigns now, since the expansion arrived as an update to the main game. Players who bought the digital version before the closure can still access their purchased games. Ask a seller which edition the cartridge holds if details matter to you.

Hero and villain together make this a rich double adventure.
