Puyo Puyo Chronicle for Nintendo 3DS

About Puyo Puyo Chronicle for Nintendo 3DS

Puyo Puyo Chronicle takes the famous falling blob puzzler and builds a full role playing adventure around it, released in Japan for the series anniversary celebrations. Arle and her friend Ally are pulled into a strange book world, and the only way home is to battle through its lands with the power of Puyo. Towns, fields and dungeons replace the plain puzzle menu, giving the series a storybook quest full of familiar faces.

Battles still ask you to stack Puyo in pairs and clear them in chains, but now your party has levels, health and skills that fire during play to clear nuisance blobs or boost your chains. Quests from villagers, treasure chests in dungeons and boss fights against big troublemakers keep the adventure moving between puzzles. It never loses the simple joy of a huge chain, and watching garbage Puyo rain on a boss feels wonderful every single time.

The route to playing it has changed in recent years. The Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS closed in March 2023, meaning new digital purchases are no longer possible. The honest way to play now is a physical cartridge picked up through a retailer, and the second hand market stays active for popular titles like this one. Players who bought the game digitally before the closure can still access their purchased games freely.

A delightful quest that proves Puyo works as an adventure too.
