Paper Mario: Color Splash for Nintendo Wii U

About Paper Mario: Color Splash for Nintendo Wii U

Paper Mario Color Splash sends Mario and Peach to Prism Island, a paper paradise that someone is draining of color. Toads arrive in the mail as flat and frightened letters, and a talking paint can named Huey joins Mario to restore the island's Big Paint Stars. The writing is the star here, packed with jokes, wordplay and Toads with real personality. Every scene looks like a craft project come to life, with cardboard, tape and glitter in every corner. It is one of the funniest games on the Wii U.

Exploration mixes light puzzles with paint. Mario's hammer splashes color onto white spots, revealing coins, paths and hidden Toads. Battles use cards chosen and painted on the Wii U GamePad touch screen, then flicked into action, a system that makes the second screen feel essential. Real world objects called Things return as hilarious battle summons, including plungers and giant fans. Enemy designs riff on classic Mario foes with paper flair. The adventure moves at a relaxed pace, rewarding players who stop to enjoy the jokes and repaint every dull corner.

An honest word on buying this paper adventure. The Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Wii U closed in March 2023, so new digital purchases are no longer possible. The honest way to play now is a physical disc through a retailer, and it is a disc many collectors prize. Players who bought the game digitally before the closure can still access their purchased games on their console. The humor alone makes the hunt worthwhile.

Prism Island needs every drop of paint you have.
