Fire Emblem If: Special Edition for Nintendo 3DS

About Fire Emblem If: Special Edition for Nintendo 3DS

Fire Emblem If Special Edition is the Japanese release of the complete Fates package for Nintendo 3DS, holding all three story paths on one cartridge. In Japan the game is called Fire Emblem If, and its two kingdoms are Byakuya and Anya, the white and dark kingdoms that became Hoshido and Nohr in the west. The third path, where the avatar refuses both families and seeks the unseen enemy, completes the story. For import collectors, this edition is a compact piece of series history.

The gameplay matches the beloved Fates systems. Pair up battles, personal skills, class changing and the castle base all carry across the three routes, which range from welcoming to famously strict. Playing in Japanese gives the story its original voices and naming, which some fans prefer for authenticity. The structure rewards playing every path, since scenes echo each other and Revelation gathers the largest army of the set. It remains a rich strategy package that can keep a player busy for a very long time indeed.

For import buyers today, the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS closed in March 2023, so new digital purchases are no longer possible in Japan either. A physical cartridge from a retailer who deals in Japanese games is the honest way to add this edition to a shelf. Owners who bought Fire Emblem If content digitally before the closure can still access their purchased games on their Nintendo 3DS, so their paths through the white and dark kingdoms remain playable on their system.

Every path of If in its original Japanese form.
