About Dead or Alive Dimensions for Nintendo 3DS
Dead or Alive Dimensions squeezes the whole early saga of the series into one handheld fighting game. Its Chronicle mode retells the story across many chapters, following ninja Kasumi, her clone and the fighters caught up in the schemes of a ruthless company. Between the story scenes you fight one duel after another, learning the cast as the plot jumps between heroes, rivals and villains in a tale of family and revenge.
The fighting itself is fast and welcoming. Attacks flow in a simple system where strikes, throws and holds counter each other like a game of rock paper scissors played at high speed. The touch screen can show move lists and even trigger combos, which helps new players feel powerful quickly. Twenty six fighters, tag battles, arcade ladders and local versus round out a meaty package. It also makes strong use of the 3D screen, with stages that feel deep and alive. Figure collecting gives solo players a long goal to chase.

Used copies of this early 3DS title are pleasant to find. The Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS closed in March 2023, so a new digital purchase is no longer possible today. A physical cartridge from a game shop is the honest route, and this one is common enough to stay affordable. Players who bought it digitally before the closure can still access their purchased games whenever they wish.
A flagship fighter that still holds up beautifully.
