Mario and Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games for Nintendo Wii U

About Mario and Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games for Nintendo Wii U

Mario and Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games takes the famous rivalry to Brazil for a summer of sport under the sun. Fourteen Olympic events cover everything from sprinting and swimming to football, golf and beach volleyball, with Mario and Sonic characters filling every lane. The Wii U version shines with sharp visuals and a party mood built for the living room. It is the sunniest entry in the series, full of color, music and medal dreams.

Controls mix button timing, stick work and motion, keeping each event simple to learn and hard to master. Duel Events add items and power plays to sports like football and volleyball, turning fair contests into friendly chaos. The Heroes Showdown mode builds a tournament where characters are knocked out one by one, adding real stakes to a long evening of events. Training, tournaments and amiibo support round out a generous package for sports fans and families alike.

Today the physical route is the way in. The Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Wii U closed in March 2023, so new digital purchases are no longer possible. A physical disc from a retailer is the honest way to play now, and used discs often cost very little. If you bought it digitally before the closure, you can still access your purchased games on your console.

Warm up, take your marks and chase that gold medal shine.
