Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games for Nintendo 3DS

About Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games for Nintendo 3DS

The mascot rivalry heads to Brazil for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Mario and Sonic lead their teams through sunlit venues in events like the hundred metre sprint, archery, boxing, table tennis and the series debut of golf on Nintendo 3DS. A story driven Road to Rio mode follows your Mii through training and rivalry on the way to gold, while rhythm gymnastics and plus versions of events add playful twists to the sporting core.

Controls change smartly from sport to sport, mixing button timing, touch strokes and motion for throws and swings. Pocket Marathon mode even turns your steps into progress while the system sleeps in your pocket, a very Nintendo touch. Medals, flags and amiibo support add goals beyond the podium, and local multiplayer keeps the couch rivalry alive. The presentation is sunny and loud, with Rio flavor in the music and venues throughout the whole package.

Available on	Physical copies for Nintendo 3DS

Rio 2016 sold well on 3DS, and its cartridges remain common. The Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS closed in March 2023, meaning new digital purchases are no longer possible. The honest way to play now is a physical cartridge from a retailer, and it is worth checking that any used copy is genuine before a big family tournament. Anyone who bought the game digitally before the closure can still access their purchased games and keep training for gold.

Sun, samba and a sprint finish with old rivals.
