Hakuoki: Memories of the Shinsengumi for Nintendo 3DS

About Hakuoki: Memories of the Shinsengumi for Nintendo 3DS

Hakuoki Memories of the Shinsengumi is a visual novel set in Kyoto near the end of the samurai age. Chizuru Yukimura travels to the city searching for her missing father, a doctor working on a strange medicine. She falls in with the Shinsengumi, the famous swordsmen who patrol Kyoto, and begins living and working beside them. Romance, loyalty and dark secrets grow together as political danger closes in around the group.

The story unfolds through long, richly written scenes with choices that shape Chizuru and her bond with each swordsman. Different routes reveal different sides of the men and of the mystery behind her father and his work. This edition adds extra scenes and a photo mode with the cast. Historical events frame the fiction, giving the romance real weight and sadness. It is a slow and emotional read for players who love story above all else.

Buying this one now works a little differently than it once did. The Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS closed in March 2023, which means new digital purchases are no longer possible. The honest way to play Hakuoki today is a physical cartridge from a retailer. Anyone who bought the game digitally before the closure can still access their purchased games, so early owners are not locked out of their collection. Prices can vary a lot between shops, so it is worth comparing a few sellers before you decide on a copy.

It still holds a warm place in the Nintendo 3DS library.
