Dragon Fantasy: The Volumes of Westeria for Nintendo 3DS

About Dragon Fantasy: The Volumes of Westeria for Nintendo 3DS

Dragon Fantasy The Volumes of Westeria is a retro role playing game that tells its story through four linked volumes, each following a different hero in the kingdom of Westeria. An aging knight, a young thief, a prince and a monster hunter each take their turn in the spotlight, and their tales weave together into one classic quest. The presentation honors the 8 bit and 16 bit eras while keeping the pacing friendly for modern players.

Battles are turn based in the classic style, with a twist: many monsters can be caught and added to your own party, fighting beside your hero. Each volume changes the party and the scenery, which keeps the long adventure feeling fresh, and an option to switch between retro and enhanced visuals lets you pick your favorite flavor of nostalgia. Gentle humor runs through the writing, poking fun at genre traditions while clearly loving them. Catching monsters to join your party is a lovely twist.

Retro questers can still find this indie gem with a little searching. Since the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS closed in March 2023, new digital purchases are no longer possible. Physical copies were limited, so a system with the game already bought is often the practical route, as those owners can still access their purchased games. Indie game collectors occasionally list complete copies for fair prices.

Old school heart with a warm modern smile.
