Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest for Nintendo 3DS

About Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest for Nintendo 3DS

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest flips the first games story. This time Donkey Kong is the one in trouble, kidnapped by Kaptain K Rool, and Diddy Kong sets sail for Crocodile Isle with his girlfriend Dixie Kong to rescue him. The pirate theme runs through every world, from ship decks and volcanic islands to a creepy amusement park, and the whole adventure feels bigger, moodier and more confident than the original.

Dixie is the star addition. Her helicopter spin lets her glide across long gaps and control falls with grace, which opens up level designs built around careful floating. The stages are tougher and the secrets better hidden, with bonus coins and a lost world reserved for the most devoted players. Animal buddies return with new tricks, and the music, again by David Wise, includes tracks fans still name among the best ever written for a game. On Nintendo 3DS it played through the Virtual Console on New Nintendo 3DS systems.

Rescue parties should know the modern situation before setting sail. Since the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS closed in March 2023, new digital purchases are no longer possible. Owners who bought the game before that date can still access their purchased games on their system, which keeps Crocodile Isle open to them. The original Super Nintendo cartridge also remains a prized and playable collectors piece through official hardware.

Many fans call it the finest in the series.
